The Senior Machine Learning Scientist position at Axon in Scottsdale, Arizona is an onsite hybrid role focused on developing advanced artificial intelligence applications for cloud, devices, and robotics. This opportunity suits an experienced machine learning professional dedicated to advancing safety and justice technology through cutting-edge research and deployment.

Key Responsibilities

Own one or more key technical areas across the Large Language Model (LLM), Multimodal Large Language Model (MLLM), and Computer Vision product portfolio.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior scientists, guiding the transition of research concepts into impactful product features.
Research and develop advanced techniques in LLM, MLLMs, Generative AI, and Computer Vision across cloud, devices, and sensor-based data sources.
Design and implement efficient, scalable MLLM models for inference and analysis of multimodal data.
Explore novel approaches to address challenges in natural language processing, natural language understanding, object detection, recognition, tracking, segmentation, and scene understanding.
Optimize artificial intelligence models and algorithms for performance, memory footprint, and energy efficiency on resource-constrained devices.
Collaborate with machine learning engineers, firmware engineers, and hardware engineers to leverage hardware accelerators.
Evaluate model performance using real-world datasets and design validation experiments.
Stay current with the latest research trends in computer vision, machine learning, and deep learning, contributing to patent disclosures and technical documentation.

Requirements

Hold a PhD in Computer Science or a related field with a focus on LLM, MLLMs, Computer Vision, or Generative AI.
Bring eight or more years of machine learning scientist experience.
Demonstrate a proven track record of research excellence through publications in top-tier conferences or journals.
Possess strong proficiency in programming languages including Python and C or C++.
Show direct experience with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras, along with ROS or robotic operational systems.
Ability to drive phases of the machine learning development lifecycle, from shaping datasets to building end-to-end training pipelines.

Nice to Have

Experience in developing computer vision algorithms for resource-constrained devices like mobile phones, IoT devices, or embedded systems.
