Role Overview

The Senior Backend Engineer will design and scale robust backend services that power customer experiences and marketplace solutions at MoneyLion. The candidate will make critical architectural decisions, create resilient microservices, and collaborate closely with product and analytics groups. This role suits a technical expert who embraces AI-assisted development tools and maintains rigorous standards for code quality.

Key Responsibilities

Own the technical lifecycle by driving design reviews, code reviews, testing, observability, and production readiness.
Collaborate cross-product and cross-functionally with engineering and analytics peers to deliver reliable technical solutions.
Design and construct modular, scalable, and resilient backend systems that adapt to shifting business demands.
Enhance operational excellence, performance, and maintainability across critical workflows and services.
Construct clean APIs, events, and dependable service boundaries to support partner integrations and analytics.
Utilize AI-assisted development tools for prototyping and refactoring while validating outputs through sound engineering judgment.
Build and maintain thorough automated test coverage spanning unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end layers.

Requirements

Five or more years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production applications.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Deep technical expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and modern backend architecture.
Experience designing and operating RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems in production environments.
Solid working knowledge of both SQL and NoSQL database modeling and query performance.
Familiarity with asynchronous, event-driven systems like Kafka.
Comfort working in cloud-native environments utilizing AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and Git workflows.
Strong understanding of reliability, performance, logging, metrics, and distributed tracing.

Nice to Have

Background working on high-scale consumer applications or marketplace platforms.
Familiarity with API gateways, rate limiting, and service-level protections.
Experience handling data pipelines, event quality, and analytics instrumentation.
Hands-on practice with modern AI coding models and AI-powered IDE tools.
