Role Overview

The Director of Platform Engineering is a senior technical leadership position based in Prague, overseeing platforms, infrastructure, and tooling across the entire technology organization. This role directs three platform teams—Cloud Platform, Productivity Platform, and AI Platform—and shapes a unified technical strategy for multi-cloud infrastructure, internal developer platforms, and emerging AI workloads. This opportunity suits an experienced engineering leader with a background in software engineering, infrastructure, and operations who thrives on scaling production environments and developing high-performing teams.

Key Responsibilities

Own the multi-year technical strategy and roadmap for Cloud Platform, Productivity Platform, and AI Platform teams, aligning them with overall organizational goals.
Treat platforms as products by establishing clear product ownership, publishing golden paths and paved roads, and managing backlogs driven by internal customer demand.
Define and track metrics that prove platform value, including adoption rates, DORA metrics, change failure rates, and developer satisfaction.
Design, deliver, and operate resilient multi-cloud infrastructure across AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure, covering compute, networking, identity, storage, and observability.
Build and operate shared AI platforms that allow product and engineering teams to safely develop, evaluate, deploy, and monitor machine learning capabilities at scale.
Manage production health for the platform estate, including 24x7 support coverage, incident command, problem management, and blameless postmortems.
Lead, hire, and develop a multi-team organization of engineering managers, principal engineers, and platform engineers, ensuring a strong culture of engineering excellence.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
Minimum of 12 years of experience in software engineering, infrastructure, or technology operations.
Minimum of 6 years of experience leading engineering teams, with at least 3 years leading managers or multiple teams simultaneously.
Demonstrated experience building, operating, and scaling production cloud infrastructure in AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure, with depth in at least one and working fluency in the other two.
Proven track record of building internal developer platforms or shared platform capabilities adopted at scale with measurable improvements to velocity, reliability, or cost.
Strong hands-on background in platform engineering, including infrastructure as code, Kubernetes and container platforms, CI/CD, observability, and self-service tooling.
Working knowledge of modern AI and machine learning infrastructure, model serving and inference, vector data stores, and AI governance controls.
Experience owning a 24x7 production environment, managing SLOs and error budgets, and handling cloud financial management.
Strong executive communication skills and a willingness to participate in and lead escalation for a 24x7 on-call rotating support schedule.

Nice to Have

Advanced degree in a technical discipline.
Experience establishing an AI or machine learning platform from early stage through broad enterprise adoption.
Experience with agentic systems, context protocols, and LLM application observability in production.
Background in cybersecurity, financial services, or another regulated or real-time transaction processing industry.
Experience operating under formal compliance regimes such as SOC 2, PCI DSS, ISO 27001, FedRAMP, or GDPR.
Experience leading distributed or globally dispersed engineering organizations.
