Brightwheel is hiring a remote Senior AI Software Engineer to build customer-facing product experiences across the United States. This full-time position is ideal for a builder who wants to shape how artificial intelligence transforms early education technology.

Role Overview

As a Senior AI Software Engineer focused on product, the professional will create software that anticipates work, recommends actions, and automates processes for school leaders, teachers, and families. The platform manages core workflows such as billing, enrollment, staffing, and classroom planning. Working closely with product and design teams, the engineer will take ambiguous challenges and turn them into functional, high-impact production software.

Key Responsibilities

Take ownership of meaningful product problems from initial discovery through launch, measurement, and ongoing iteration.
Leverage artificial intelligence to enhance both personal engineering velocity and the value delivered to the platform's community.
Prototype rapidly, test assumptions with real users, and use working software to bring clarity to complex requirements.
Maintain high standards for platform reliability, security, privacy, observability, and overall code quality.
Develop customer-facing workflows covering family communication, onboarding, billing, classrooms, and enrollment.
Collaborate across functions with product, design, and customer teams to deliver measurable results.

Requirements

Possess two or more years of professional software engineering experience.
Demonstrate solid engineering fundamentals with the ability to reason across data, APIs, product surfaces, and systems infrastructure.
Bring a track record of owning production work from problem definition to launch and subsequent iteration.
Actively integrate AI tools and agents into the daily engineering workflow.
Exhibit the capacity to increase personal development speed without sacrificing quality standards.
Show examples of automating work processes for yourself, your team, or the broader organization.
Thrive in ambiguous environments and convert unclear problems into shipped code.
Communicate effectively and collaborate smoothly across multidisciplinary teams.
Place a strong emphasis on data privacy, security, and customer trust.

Nice to Have

Background in shipping production-ready AI-powered products, internal workflows, or automated tools.
Familiarity with retrieval systems, tool use, monitoring, orchestration, and agent workflows.
Domain knowledge in vertical SaaS, education, healthcare, fintech, CRM, or ecommerce.
A robust portfolio of personal projects, side projects, open-source work, or writing that demonstrates builder enthusiasm.
Experience improving mobile or web outcomes through architecture, tooling, or direct production feedback.

Skills and Tools

Backend technologies including Ruby on Rails and Sidekiq.
Data management via PostgreSQL on Amazon RDS, Redis, and analytics pipelines.
Frontend development utilizing React and TypeScript.
Mobile development with native iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose).
Cloud infrastructure featuring AWS, Docker, Kubernetes on Amazon EKS, GitHub Actions, FluxCD, S3, CloudFront, CloudWatch, and SNS.
AI systems including AWS Bedrock, hosted large language models, vector search, agent frameworks, and coding tools like Cursor and Claude Code.
