Role Overview

Cartesia is opening its first European office in London and seeks talented individuals to help architect artificial intelligence that learns from and interacts with the world like humans do. As a Researcher, Models, the selected candidate will conduct pioneering research in neural network architecture design to advance state-of-the-art models.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct groundbreaking research in neural network architecture design to advance state-of-the-art alternative architectures, including state space models, efficient Transformers, and hybrid architectures.
Design novel architectures that enhance model quality, inference efficiency, and adaptability across diverse deployment environments ranging from cloud to on-device.
Explore and develop capabilities like statefulness, long-range memory, and innovative conditioning mechanisms to improve model expressiveness and generalization.
Investigate the impact of architectural decisions on trade-offs such as scalability, robustness, latency, and energy efficiency.
Build new frameworks and tools to evaluate architectural innovations and benchmark performance across research and production settings.
Work alongside cross-functional teams to translate architectural research into scalable systems for practical real-world applications.

Requirements

Deep expertise in architecture design, backed by experience researching or deploying advanced architectures like state space models, transformers, RNN variants, or CNN variants.
Strong comprehension of how architectures interact with system constraints for deployment in cloud or on-device environments.
Proficiency in creating architectures that balance quality, efficiency, and adaptability across diverse use cases and modalities including vision, audio, and text.
Familiarity with generative modeling paradigms such as autoregressive and diffusion models, alongside designing statefulness and conditioning in deep learning models.
A proven research track record in top-tier machine learning and artificial intelligence venues like NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, and CVPR, or demonstrable contributions to state-of-the-art architectures.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities centered around experimentation and iterative refinement.

Nice to Have

Prior research or publications focusing on state space models, efficient transformers, or other alternative architectures.
Practical experience or research in designing architectures for multi-modal systems.
Background working in early-stage startups or a documented track record of rapid innovation within research and development environments.

Skills and Tools

Strong programming skills utilizing deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
Experience with profiling tools to understand and evaluate model performance.
