About this role

Cartesia is hiring a full-time Analytics Engineer to build and manage the company-wide source of truth at the San Francisco headquarters. This foundational role suits an experienced data professional with a passion for establishing reliable metrics and scalable warehouse systems.

Role Overview

As an early data hire, the Analytics Engineer will unify product, billing, CRM, marketing, and operational data into trusted models and standardized metric definitions. The primary objective is to build robust systems and standards that allow every team across the company to answer business questions consistently.

Key Responsibilities

Own the end-to-end data path from source systems to canonical datasets, key metrics, and leadership dashboards.
Identify and resolve data-quality issues across transformation pipelines, data models, and reporting layers.
Build and maintain reliable warehouse models using SQL and dbt or similar tools.
Establish comprehensive metric definitions, automated tests, data lineage, freshness monitoring, and clear documentation.
Partner directly with Product, Engineering, RevOps, Growth, and GTM teams to translate complex business concepts into durable data models.
Design trusted dashboards tracking core metrics such as user activation, feature usage, billing, customer health, and marketing performance.
Make routine data questions self-serve while ensuring reporting relies on unified canonical logic rather than duplicate definitions.
Audit existing data infrastructure and recommend pragmatic improvements to ETL processes and analytics tooling.
Educate internal teams on proper usage of the data source of truth and best practices for creating new metrics.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of experience working in analytics engineering, data engineering, or a technically rigorous analytics function, preferably within a B2B SaaS or developer-tools environment.
Expert-level SQL capabilities and strong foundations in data warehouse modeling, including dimensional design, historization, and identity resolution.
Practical production experience with dbt or equivalent transformation tooling, along with workflow testing, orchestration, monitoring, lineage, and documentation.
Demonstrated track record of consolidating fragmented data sources and competing definitions into unified, reusable models.
Direct experience working with product, billing, CRM, and marketing data sets.
Strong judgment regarding where data logic should live, whether in a source system, pipeline, warehouse model, semantic layer, or dashboard.
Ability to investigate data discrepancies thoroughly to prevent recurrence rather than simply patching symptoms.
Strong stakeholder management and the ability to turn ambiguous business concepts into precise data requirements.
A practical, low-ego working style focused on building durable foundational systems while solving urgent issues.

Nice to Have

Prior experience serving as an early or founding member of a dedicated data team.
Background in full-funnel growth analytics, marketing attribution, channel ROI, CRM mechanics, billing systems, or self-serve conversion.
Experience constructing self-serve data workflows or utilizing LLM-powered analytics tooling.
