Role Overview

As a Backend Product Engineer at Frontdesk AI in San Francisco, the selected individual will design APIs, data pipelines, and model-integrated services. This position involves delivering reliable, real-time property insights for enterprise-scale underwriting decisions. Working directly with the founders, the engineer will help shape the core platform and establish safe applications of artificial intelligence within the insurance industry.

Key Responsibilities

Take complete ownership of backend features through every stage from initial design to production deployment.

Create scalable services and system integrations tailored for Fortune 500 insurance providers.

Construct data pipelines capable of ingesting, validating, and transforming massive property datasets.

Develop and enhance AI-assisted backend functionality, including API architecture, retrieval-backed features, and system monitoring.

Maintain high standards of observability, operational reliability, and performance across all infrastructure.

Partner closely with founders, engineers, and clients to rapidly iterate on valuable product features.

Requirements

Zero to five years of engineering experience, with one to three years considered ideal, and exceptional new graduates welcomed.

Hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or possess equivalent practical experience.

Demonstrate proficiency in Python programming, working with databases, and utilizing major cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.

Bring proven experience in shipping data-intensive services or AI-assisted applications like model APIs and retrieval pipelines.

Show strong familiarity with modern AI tools designed for coding efficiency and productivity.

Thrive within fast-paced, high-stakes operational settings while demonstrating a strong sense of personal ownership.

Nice to Have

Practical background in PostgreSQL schema design and database migration processes.

Familiarity with system observability practices including logs, metrics, traces, and performance tuning.

Experience establishing CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation workflows.
