Role Overview

The Principal Engineer, Applied AI is responsible for leading the architectural transformation of the patient care platform by taking research-stage AI experiments and turning them into robust production systems. This hands-on position involves owning the end-to-end patient-facing experience, spanning intake through ongoing care companionship. The engineer works closely with a fast-moving research team to inject engineering rigor, reliability, and scalability into core backend and fullstack services.

Key Responsibilities

Own the overall architecture for the Applied AI stack, integrating individual services into a coherent patient-facing experience.
Partner with research-focused team members to productionize AI-driven work, hardening services for uptime and scale.
Establish best practices for debugging, observability, and operational readiness from the start.
Mentor senior technical leaders and elevate engineering capabilities across the organization.
Navigate ambiguity and complexity to clarify direction, remove organizational blockers, and accelerate delivery.
Translate customer needs and product goals into scalable technical solutions with embedded customer obsession.
Design systems and team boundaries for sustainable growth with early investment in non-functional priorities.

Requirements

15+ years of professional software engineering experience featuring deep architectural expertise and large-scale production delivery.
Proven track record of influencing technical strategy and executing cross-organization initiatives at the group or organizational level.
Demonstrated ability to stand up services at scale in production with a focus on robustness, scalability, and debuggability.
Deep experience owning service architecture across a full stack.
Hands-on engineering capability to stay close to the code and architecture alongside roadmap planning.
Exposure to LLM or AI-powered services in some capacity.
Strong communication skills for partnering across research, product, and clinical stakeholders.
