Member of Technical Staff (Search Core DevOps Engineer)
About this role
Scaling infrastructure to handle rapidly changing user demand requires a dedicated DevOps engineer who can maintain high availability for core search systems. Perplexity needs a technical contributor in Belgrade to design, build, and support the underlying architecture that powers conversational web search.
Working alongside in-house AI teams, this person will take ownership of cloud infrastructure, database management, and deployment pipelines. The ideal candidate brings strong backend cloud experience and enjoys building internal tooling to help fellow engineers iterate faster.
What you will do
- Architect and deliver highly available, performant systems capable of scaling to meet growing traffic.
- Build internal tools and developer workflows that streamline the daily tasks of the engineering team.
- Implement robust continuous integration and deployment pipelines to increase iteration speed and stability.
- Manage, tune, and optimize both relational and key-value database systems.
- Scale and load balance web server backends to adapt to shifting operational demands.
- Track system metrics actively and resolve performance bottlenecks or reliability concerns.
- Create comprehensive monitoring dashboards, alerts, and visibility tools for production environments.
What you need
- Bring at least three years of professional experience in DevOps, SRE, or system administration.
- Demonstrate strong practical background in designing cloud infrastructure using AWS.
- Show proficiency in database administration and caching methodologies.
- Possess hands-on experience working with containerization and orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Write infrastructure as code using Terraform and develop applications or scripts in Python.
- Exhibit strong debugging abilities to analyze and resolve complex technical challenges.
- Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across technical teams.
