Role Overview

Fireworks AI is hiring a Member of Technical Staff for their Cloud Infrastructure team in San Mateo, with remote flexibility available. This opportunity suits experienced engineers eager to architect and scale foundational systems for a revolutionary generative AI platform.

Key Responsibilities

Design and construct robust, high-performance backend infrastructure capable of supporting distributed data processing, training, and inference workflows.
Direct technical architecture discussions, guide peer engineers, and set operational standards for large-scale machine learning systems.
Build core backend utilities including job schedulers, autoscalers, resource managers, and serving layers to guarantee minimal latency and maximum efficiency.
Spearhead optimization tasks focusing on compute expense reduction, network performance tuning, and storage lifecycle management.
Work alongside machine learning, product, and DevOps divisions to transform research goals into dependable infrastructure solutions.
Investigate and adopt cloud-native and open-source tools to improve platform reliability and capabilities.
Oversee complete system lifecycles spanning conception, rollout, and observability, prioritizing fault tolerance and high availability.
Establish deep monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting frameworks to maintain constant visibility over system performance.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Minimum of five years building and designing backend infrastructure within cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Demonstrated background working with machine learning infrastructure and associated tooling.
Proficiency in software development languages such as Python or C++.
Comprehensive grasp of distributed systems principles, covering orchestration, scheduling, networking, compute optimization, and storage.

Nice to Have

Master's degree or PhD focused on Computer Science or a related technical field.
Background managing infrastructure initiatives that support high-throughput systems or large-scale AI workloads.
Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD tools such as Terraform, ArgoCD, and GitOps.
Documented success improving system reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.
Previous contributions to open-source cloud infrastructure or machine learning projects.
