This position suits an autonomous privacy professional experienced in tech environments who can handle regulatory correspondence and build efficient compliance systems without a large team.

Role Overview

Fireworks AI is hiring a Senior Privacy Specialist in London to act as the primary privacy point of contact for the UK and EU regions. Reporting to the Privacy Lead within a small global privacy team, this hands-on advisory role involves managing supervisory authority correspondence and owning operational compliance processes under UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and the Data Protection Act 2018. The specialist provides critical guidance to engineering, product, go-to-market, and legal teams.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the initial contact for the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and EU supervisory authorities, managing inquiries and regulator correspondence.
Offer standing privacy advice to product, engineering, GTM, and legal divisions regarding regional law compliance and risk acceptance.
Oversee regional data subject rights outcomes including statutory deadlines, exemptions, and edge cases.
Manage cross-border transfer compliance through UK IDTA and Addendum, EU SCCs, adequacy analysis, and Transfer Impact Assessments.
Lead breach assessments, triage, 72-hour notification decisions, and communications with regulators and data subjects.
Implement privacy-by-design principles by reviewing new products, features, models, and vendors for risk.
Collaborate with AI governance initiatives regarding model training, fine-tuning, data minimization, purpose limitation, and EU AI Act obligations.
Maintain the accuracy and practicality of the UK/EU privacy notice and policy library.

Requirements

Possess 5 to 7 years of professional experience in data protection or privacy, with significant time spent in a cloud, SaaS, or tech company.
Demonstrate hands-on working knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, and EU GDPR.
Bring prior experience acting as the primary or sole privacy owner for a company, product, or region.
Show a proven track record of conducting DPIAs and DSARs directly and advising technical teams on privacy-by-design.
Exhibit direct experience applying international transfer mechanisms like SCCs, UK IDTA, TIAs, and adequacy.
Possess exposure to supervisory authorities in a capacity such as DPO or deputy.
Demonstrate strong communication skills to bridge technical, executive, legal, and sales audiences.
Maintain comfort with LLM-based tooling and low-code automation to specify and build program systems.
Be based in the EU or UK with the legal right to work in those geographies.

Nice to Have

Hold privacy certifications such as FIP, CIPT, CIPM, or CIPP/E.
Possess familiarity with privacy platforms like OneTrust, TrustArc, Transcend, DataGrail, or Securiti.
Bring exposure to AI/ML data governance, ISO 42001, model training data considerations, or the EU AI Act.
Have experience establishing a regional privacy function at a growth-stage company.
