Role Overview

Vapi is hiring a Member of Technical Staff for Agentic Developer Experience to build and own a unified, reliable agentic development lifecycle in San Francisco or on a remote basis. This position suits an experienced developer infrastructure engineer who wants to accelerate engineering velocity by creating autonomous software factory workflows for real-time voice AI.

Key Responsibilities

Map and instrument the journey from task to production within the first thirty days while improving sandboxes, tooling, and validation systems.
Launch initial production workflows for internal software factories within sixty days to help background agents generate review-ready pull requests with solid evidence.
Build and manage a platform for autonomous background engineering over ninety days, developing agent harnesses that can place real calls, evaluate latency, inspect telemetry, and verify results.
Connect sandboxes, continuous integration, validation checks, and background agents into a unified architecture.

Requirements

Experience building internal platforms, developer tooling, or infrastructure that transforms how engineering teams create and test software.
Strong software engineering fundamentals covering distributed systems, platform architecture, API design, continuous integration and deployment pipelines, and large codebase workflows.
Practical background in building agent harnesses and utilizing coding tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex for real engineering tasks.
Capability to design secure agent interfaces, Model Context Protocol integrations, and safe sandboxed runtimes for application programming interface calls and command-line operations.
Experience creating online and offline evaluation systems for large language models with a solid grasp of accuracy, latency, reliability, and cost factors.
Proficiency in at least one major programming language such as TypeScript, Python, or Go along with familiarity across cloud infrastructure, containers, databases, and queues.
Knowledge of frontier models and techniques including prompt caching, retrieval systems, context compression, and multi-agent coordination.
