Role Overview

Figma is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to guide the Data Platform team across US hubs or remotely in the United States. In this position, the selected individual will lead a team of engineers building and operating the core data platform that powers product analytics, business metrics, and applied AI systems. The role involves setting the technical roadmap, partnering with cross-functional groups, and ensuring the platform's reliability and scalability.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and grow a team of engineers building and operating the data platform, while retaining ownership of delivery, technical direction, and team health.
Establish the roadmap and technical strategy for the sub-area, providing hands-on technical leadership when necessary.
Drive the reliability, scalability, and forward strategy of the platform to match organizational adoption.
Hire, coach, and develop engineers and tech leads to build an inclusive and high-performing team.
Partner closely with Product, Data Science, Finance, and Engineering to determine high-leverage priorities and ensure alignment.
Evaluate and manage platform vendors while making sound build-versus-buy choices.
Balance near-term execution with long-term platform investments to keep delivery predictable.

Requirements

Three or more years of experience managing engineers, which includes senior individual contributors or tech leads, along with a track record of building and scaling high-performing teams.
Demonstrated experience building and scaling data platform or data infrastructure systems within a production, online environment.
A robust software engineering background featuring senior or staff-level technical depth prior to management, with enough current depth to set direct technical direction.
Strong partnership mentality and the ability to manage multiple cross-functional stakeholder groups like Engineering, Product, Finance, and Data Science.
Capability to set technical direction, prioritize under ambiguity, drive alignment, and demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Nice to Have

Expertise in large-scale data processing systems, covering batch, streaming, or applied AI and ML workloads.
Familiarity with feature flagging or experimentation platforms.
A proven track record of evaluating and managing vendor relationships.
Demonstrated ability to scale hiring at pace and develop tech leads.
