About this role

The IT Engineer, Internal AI Infrastructure position at Figma is a full-time role focused on designing and building the runtime foundation for employee-facing artificial intelligence applications, located across US hubs or remotely in the United States. This opportunity suits experienced infrastructure and platform engineers eager to create secure, scalable, and reusable AI systems that empower teams across the entire organization.

Role Overview

Figma seeks an IT Engineer to anchor the Infrastructure and Hosting pillar within the Business Technology organization. This role serves as a foundational member responsible for creating the paved path that transitions internal AI apps, bots, and agents from early prototypes into robust production environments. The chosen professional will develop shared hosting infrastructure, engineer model routing systems based on cost and capability, and establish comprehensive telemetry and cost-attribution frameworks for internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Design and construct the hosting golden path for internal AI applications, bots, and agents, including runtime solutions for scheduled jobs and long-running workflows.
Build sophisticated model routing layers to direct various tasks across different frontier and lower-cost models while maintaining a full audit trail.
Establish observability, usage analytics, audit logging, and precise per-team cost attribution for corporate AI workloads.
Integrate enterprise identity, access, and security patterns, ensuring default Okta connections secure workflows involving sensitive data.
Collaborate closely with product AI infrastructure teams to share gateways and telemetry instead of building redundant parallel systems.
Shape overall platform strategies, architectural roadmaps, and engineering best practices as a founding member of the infrastructure pillar.

Requirements

Five or more years of software engineering experience, highlighting significant background in infrastructure, platform, or backend engineering.
Proven track record of successfully building internal platforms or paved paths that were actively adopted by engineering teams.
Strong system design capabilities with demonstrated experience architecting reliable, observable production systems.
Hands-on expertise with LLM operations, such as model gateways, agent runtimes, evaluations, or cost and usage instrumentation.
Familiarity with enterprise identity and access management environments, including Okta, SSO, and secure service-to-service authentication.

Nice to Have

Experience building internal AI workspaces, developer platforms, or tools in the broader enterprise LLM suite category.
Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP), agent orchestration frameworks, or skill and plugin registry patterns.
Background working within audit and compliance programs like SOX or ITGC.
History of serving as the first infrastructure hire on a compact team with broad operational responsibilities.
