About this role

Role Overview

The Hardware Engineering Manager position at Coram AI in Sunnyvale is an on-site leadership opportunity that oversees physical security hardware development. This role suits an experienced engineering professional with a background in mechanical or electrical production who wants to drive physical product lines from concept through mass production.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the existing shipping access-control line by monitoring quality, field performance, change control, and ongoing costs.
Deliver two brand-new product lines end-to-end, taking them from concept and design through EVT, PVT, certification, ramp, and mass production.
Direct the relationship with contract manufacturers directly, managing the complete design transfer package and associated materials.
Perform hands-on engineering work, which may include CAD and drawings or schematics and board bring-up based on individual expertise.
Establish and run departmental processes including stage gates, quality systems, supplier qualification, and test protocols.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in production mechanical or electrical engineering.
Practical background in shipping volume products through external contract manufacturers with specific knowledge of partners, products, and metrics.
Direct ownership history of factory relationships instead of delegating designs to a manufacturing engineer or technical program manager.
Experience overseeing complete design transfer packages encompassing CAD, bills of materials, assembly instructions, test procedures, quality criteria, and drawings.
Hands-on involvement in taking products through certifications, requiring FCC at minimum with CE and UL familiarity as an advantage.
Demonstrated ability to ship products rapidly under strict constraints and make strategic scoping decisions to meet deadlines.
History of building resilient, scalable processes and developing engineering staff with solid individual contributor achievements.
