Role Overview

The Forward Deployed Engineer position at Exa is an in-person opportunity based in London for a technical professional to lead go-to-market strategies. Key Responsibilities

Manage the technical aspects of the sales cycle alongside Account Executives, covering discovery, solution design, and proof of concept phases.
Create customized working demos and prototypes utilizing the Exa API for use cases like search, agents, and enrichment.
Act as a trusted technical advisor by addressing complex technical queries, handling objections, and guiding rigorous evaluations.
Identify expansion opportunities within current accounts to drive ongoing growth.
Translate technical features into clear narratives for CTOs, product managers, and software engineers.
Collect feedback from customer interactions and relay insights back to the product and engineering teams.
Develop reusable playbooks, integration patterns, and demos while representing Exa at industry conferences and meetups.
Assist early regional customers with onboarding and initial implementation.

Requirements

Five or more years of experience in a customer-facing technical position such as solutions engineering, technical consulting, solutions architecture, or developer relations.
Proficiency in modern software development and APIs using languages like Python or TypeScript, including the use of AI-assisted tools for building and debugging.
Excellent presentation and communication abilities to engage diverse audiences effectively.
High comfort level working in ambiguous, early-stage environments with the ability to manage multiple evaluations simultaneously.
Understanding of the current AI ecosystem, including LLMs, agents, and RAG.
Physical residency in the London region with a readiness to travel for client meetings.

Nice to Have

Prior experience managing technical evaluations and proofs of concept at an API-first or developer-platform company.
Background leading engineering teams or seeking a more hands-on customer-facing career path.
Personal or professional history of building projects using large language models.
Experience navigating enterprise evaluations, handling security questionnaires, and responding to RFPs.
