Engineering Manager, Site Reliability Engineering
About this role
Scaling user growth requires underlying infrastructure that supports safe production changes, predictable performance, and measurable reliability. Replit seeks an Engineering Manager to lead Site Reliability Engineering, directing observability, incident management, load testing, performance engineering, cloud cost and capacity, and rollout infrastructure.
The incoming leader will manage and grow an existing team building and operating production platforms across application and infrastructure boundaries. Responsibilities include staying technically engaged by reviewing designs, debugging difficult failure modes, and using AI coding tools to prototype and automate while maintaining rigorous verification.
Candidates should possess demonstrated engineering management experience and depth in software-oriented production systems. Success in the role requires strong judgment around safe changes, performance, and cross-team platform products.
What you will do
- Build and operate metrics, logs, traces, and alerting capabilities while helping teams establish meaningful service level objectives.
- Own incident tooling and practices to coordinate cross-response and reduce recovery time and repeat failures.
- Construct and maintain load and failure testing capabilities to validate critical paths under expected demand.
- Lead deep engagements with internal teams on service level objectives and end-to-end performance using profiling and telemetry.
- Review designs and production changes, debug difficult failure modes, and utilize AI coding tools to prototype and automate.
- Coach engineers, develop technical leaders, manage performance, and hire against agreed needs.
- Track rollout safety, recovery time, repeat incidents, critical-path latency, and test coverage to measure outcomes.
What you need
- Demonstrated engineering management background with experience leading, developing, and hiring engineers.
- Depth in software-oriented production systems, including building and operating distributed systems or reliability platforms.
- Ability to reason across deployment behavior, Kubernetes, telemetry, service dependencies, and recovery mechanisms.
- Safe-change and performance judgment gained through leading consequential migrations or incidents.
- Platform-product and cross-team judgment to build capabilities other teams adopt and balance reliability, performance, and cost.
Nice to have
- Experience with GitOps or progressive-delivery platforms such as Harness, ArgoCD, or Kargo.
- Experience with observability, profiling, load-testing, and failure-testing systems including OpenTelemetry.
- Experience with cloud cost attribution, capacity planning, and provider coordination on GCP.
- Experience growing distributed teams and using AI tools to increase engineering output while preserving safeguards.
