Paraform is hiring an Engineering Manager for their Marketplace team in San Francisco to lead a pod of engineers and drive core marketplace outcomes. This hands-on player-coach position suits an experienced engineering leader with a background in marketplaces and incentive-driven systems.

Role Overview

Paraform is scaling its engineering organization significantly from its current size of 15 engineers. The Marketplace team sits at the very center of this growth, owning how recruiter supply meets company demand with a direct impact on revenue. Depending on the candidate's level of experience, the title for this position may be Manager or Director. This is a player-coach role requiring time spent on people management, prioritization, and system design, alongside remaining hands-on in the codebase by reading pull requests, debugging incidents, and shipping code.

Key Responsibilities

Hire, coach, and level up a pod of senior-leaning engineers within a small, autonomous team environment.
Manage marketplace health by focusing on liquidity, allocation, matching, and distribution systems that balance recruiter attention and open roles.
Oversee incentives, payments, bonuses, and pricing mechanics that shape recruiter behavior.
Build experimentation muscles by validating changes through A/B testing, guardrail metrics, and careful metric analysis.
Translate ambiguous business goals into clear quarterly execution plans and deliver results.

Requirements

Bring at least 2 years of experience managing engineers for the Manager track, or 5+ years including managing multiple teams or managers for the Director track, alongside a strong individual contributor background.
Prior professional experience working on a marketplace, payments, pricing, or similar domains where system incentives are critical.
Data-fluent capabilities including the ability to pull SQL queries, sanity-check experiment readouts, and evaluate metrics.
AI fluency demonstrated by personal use of AI tools and the ability to increase team leverage using them.
Strong written communication skills used for operating norms, decision documents, and postmortems.
Comfort with being hands-on and writing code in a fast-moving environment.
