About this role
Modal is building a new infrastructure layer for artificial intelligence to support modern workloads like low-latency inference, model fine-tuning, and scalable production sandboxes. The engineering group treats comprehensive documentation as a core pillar of developer experience, recognizing that technical guides matter deeply as automated agents increasingly deploy and operate applications on the platform. This documentation engineer will partner closely with product squads to curate technical content, establish rigorous quality standards, and shape content architecture as new features launch.
The person in this role will build automated pipelines that verify code examples, innovate on delivery formats to optimize agent productivity alongside the Agent DX research team, and collaborate directly with software engineers to author precise guides. Ideal candidates bring a strong background in developer tools or infrastructure, possess practical knowledge of agentic workflows, and combine software development skills with a talent for clear technical writing.
What you will do
- Design and evolve the overall content architecture as new products and features roll out.
- Collaborate with the Agent DX research team to develop novel documentation formats tailored for agent productivity.
- Establish clear content standards, style guides, and automated mechanisms to enforce consistent quality.
- Create and maintain automated pipelines that verify the correctness of code examples and written prose.
- Partner with internal engineers across the company to write clear, accurate, and consistent technical documentation.
What you need
- Bring at least three years of professional experience in an engineering, product, or developer relations role, preferably within devtools or infrastructure.
- Demonstrate a proven track record of authoring or editing high-quality technical content targeted at developers.
- Possess familiarity with agentic engineering workflows and current industry best practices.
- Maintain comfort with modern software development practices such as version control, continuous integration, and testing.
