Modal is hiring a Member of Technical Staff for the SDK team in Stockholm to develop software primitives and enhance the developer experience for clients.

Role Overview

Modal operates an infrastructure platform providing instant GPU access, sub-second container starts, and native storage for artificial intelligence workloads. The Stockholm office requires technical staff to focus on improving SDKs, command-line interfaces, and underlying abstractions that support developer productivity and agentic workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Build and improve software libraries and tools utilized by other developers.
Enhance the developer and agent experience across the SDK and CLI.
Create new primitives to handle emerging industry demands and workloads.
Collaborate directly with users to solve technical challenges and address customer needs.
Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to production incidents.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of professional experience writing high-quality Python, JavaScript, or Go applications and libraries intended for other developers.
Strong focus on developer ergonomics, productivity, and code-as-product thinking.
Familiarity with asynchronous programming principles and concurrency management challenges.
Strong customer empathy, effective communication skills, and willingness to work directly with users.
Availability to participate in on-call schedules and handle production incidents.
Ability to work on-site in the Stockholm office.

Nice to Have

Prior experience building software development tools or software development kits (SDKs).
Background in maintaining open-source software projects.
Understanding of agentic development workflows.
Familiarity with modern data, machine learning, and artificial intelligence tools.
