Gen is looking for a Data Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer to join their team in Prague, with remote work flexibility available. This role is ideal for an experienced technical professional ready to spearhead the evolution of intelligent, learned decisioning within the Martech organization.

Role Overview

Gen operates as a global leader dedicated to powering digital freedom via trusted consumer brands like Norton, Avast, and LifeLock. The Martech organization is transitioning from manually defined campaign and message-selection rules toward smart, learned decisioning. As the founding engineer for this transformation, the successful candidate will build and own the systems that determine message and creative delivery timing, targeting, and selection. Responsibilities include developing a contextual-bandit-based message-selection platform, establishing a content-embedding pipeline for new creative generalization, and implementing low-latency serving and feedback infrastructure. Collaboration with product, marketing, data science, engineering, business, and compliance stakeholders is essential to optimize relevance while strictly enforcing consumer protections, eligibility rules, and frequency caps above the models.

Key Responsibilities

Build low-latency online serving systems and reliable feedback loops covering impressions, selections, conversions, outcomes, and model learning.
Design, build, and operate a production-grade contextual bandit dedicated to message and campaign selection.
Own the content-embedding pipeline that supports rapid generalization to new creative assets without needing a full history of prior interactions.
Translate business and compliance demands into durable system safeguards, including frequency caps, suppression rules, eligibility conditions, and disclosures.
Establish robust evaluation, experimentation, monitoring, and rollback practices for safe production operations.
Make pragmatic modeling and architecture choices, utilizing the simplest approach that fulfills business needs.
Mentor engineering peers and help shape the technical direction and roadmap for personalization and decisioning across Martech.

Requirements

Significant experience designing and delivering production machine learning or decisioning systems, typically at a senior or staff level.
Strong software engineering fundamentals with a track record of building reliable, observable services, real-time inference APIs, event-driven feedback systems, and production data pipelines.
Practical knowledge of experimentation and online evaluation, encompassing metrics, bias, exploration versus exploitation, and failure modes.
Experience working with embeddings, representation learning, content understanding, or systems capable of generalizing to new items.
Sound judgment regarding model complexity, operational risk, and identifying when a simpler solution is appropriate.
Clear communication skills to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and align partners around trade-offs.

Nice to Have

Experience with personalization, lifecycle marketing, campaign optimization, recommender systems, or customer engagement platforms.
Hands-on experience shipping a contextual bandit, recommender system, ranking system, or comparable online decisioning capability into production.
Familiarity with privacy, consumer protection, compliance, or regulated-product considerations within personalization.
Experience establishing technical direction for a new platform and mentoring engineers across various teams.
