Role Overview

The Compute Financial Analyst position at Fireworks AI is a full-time role based in San Mateo with remote flexibility, operating within the Accounting department. This professional will help build and manage the accounting, allocation, and reporting for compute cost of revenue as the company scales.

Key Responsibilities

Execute the monthly close for compute cost of revenue by preparing cloud cost journal entries, accruals for unbilled usage, prepaid amortization, and true-ups.
Reconcile GPU utilization data against cloud service provider invoices, contracted capacity, and the general ledger while resolving billing discrepancies.
Maintain prepaid cloud balance schedules and ensure proper short-term and long-term classification tied to committed capacity.
Account for complex vendor agreements, committed spend, prepayments, reimbursement structures, and downtime credits.
Evaluate the accounting treatment of new vendor contracts, including gross versus net presentation and embedded leases under ASC 842.
Collaborate with data teams to validate cost and utilization data pipelines that drive allocations and reporting.
Draft technical accounting memos for cost of revenue and capitalized software amortization.
Prepare documentation and schedules to support external audit inquiries.
Automate and scale cost accounting processes and reconciliations for growing compute expenses.

Requirements

Hold a bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Bring three to six years of relevant accounting or finance experience, with a focus on cost accounting or cost of revenue.
Demonstrate familiarity with cost allocation concepts, including direct attribution and overhead allocation across cost centers.
Exhibit comfort working with large datasets and reconciling data across multiple systems.
Possess advanced spreadsheet capabilities in Excel or Google Sheets.
Apply strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with high attention to detail.

Nice to Hold

Certified Public Accountant designation or active CPA candidacy.
Prior experience in cloud computing, artificial intelligence infrastructure, SaaS, or usage-based business models.
Experience evaluating vendor contracts and translating commercial terms into accounting treatments.
Proficiency with NetSuite or another major enterprise resource planning system.
Practical knowledge of SQL or experience interacting directly with data warehouses.
