Lawyers in this position manage the entire commercial legal lifecycle, handling the drafting, negotiation, and finalization of diverse agreements covering partnerships, procurement, infrastructure, and licensing. Daily duties involve close collaboration with product, engineering, security, finance, and sales departments to finalize deals, enhance data security and compliance, and offer guidance on legal questions related to artificial intelligence.
The legal team builds scalable infrastructure and enables the business to operate swiftly while managing potential risks appropriately. Successful practitioners bring substantial expertise in negotiating commercial technology contracts, such as infrastructure and compute procurement agreements, alongside a solid grasp of data privacy principles and independent risk assessment capabilities.
What you will do
- Lead the end-to-end drafting, review, and negotiation of various commercial agreements including MSAs, SaaS and API contracts, DPAs, and procurement deals.
- Act as a primary legal partner for the business to deliver practical counsel that accelerates deal velocity while maintaining risk management standards.
- Deliver strategic counsel regarding legal risks tied to AI infrastructure, compute resources, partnerships, and enterprise deployments.
- Evaluate AI-specific legal considerations in contracts such as acceptable use, data retention, training restrictions, and evolving regulations.
- Develop and maintain scalable legal infrastructure like contract templates, negotiation playbooks, fallback positions, and self-serve workflows.
- Collaborate across departments with Product, Engineering, Security, Finance, and Compliance teams to identify and address legal risks early.
- Track the changing regulatory landscape for enterprise AI and SaaS products to provide practical guidance to internal stakeholders.
What you need
- Possess a JD and maintain good standing with an active U.S. state bar membership.
- Bring at least five or more years of law firm and or in-house legal experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial technology agreements.
- Demonstrate strong business acumen and the capacity to partner effectively with sales, product, engineering, and executive teams.
- Maintain deep familiarity with data privacy and security frameworks including GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, SOC 2, and HIPAA alongside DPA negotiation experience.
- Communicate clearly with both business and technical audiences to translate legal concepts for non-lawyers.
- Approach tasks with a hands-on and low-ego attitude while working comfortably in a fast-paced environment with ambiguity.
