Role Overview

The Billing Operations Analyst at Fireworks AI in San Mateo, California (with remote availability) is responsible for managing billing and receivables operations for usage-based customer accounts. This position is ideal for a finance professional who combines core billing expertise with systems thinking and a drive for automation.

Key Responsibilities

Manage operational billing processes for usage-based customers.
Oversee customer billing setup, ensuring billing configurations, account details, and payment requirements are accurate.
Track the usage-to-bill lifecycle to guarantee that customer usage is completely and accurately captured, rated, and billed.
Conduct usage-to-billing reconciliations and troubleshoot discrepancies between source usage data and client invoices.
Track billing exceptions, failed payment events, anomalous transactions, and other irregularities.
Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data, and Finance Systems teams to diagnose and fix systemic billing problems.
Handle receivables, accounts aging, collections, unapplied cash, and customer account exceptions.
Address customer billing disputes and drive problems toward swift resolutions.
Assist with month-end close procedures, covering billing completeness, accounts receivable reconciliations, usage reconciliations, and aging validation.
Carry out SOX and Order-to-Cash (O2C) controls while maintaining proper documentation and segregation of duties.
Build exception-based monitoring and controls to scale billing operations efficiently.
Spot automation potential across usage validation, billing, collections, reconciliation, and reporting.
Establish and track operational metrics including billing completeness, accuracy, failed billing events, exception rates, aging, DSO, disputes, and unapplied cash.

Requirements

Bring 3 to 6+ years of relevant professional experience in Billing Operations, Order-to-Cash, Finance Operations, Accounts Receivable, or a related area.
Demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to work with large, complex billing datasets.
Show capability in investigating cross-system discrepancies and finding root causes.
Possess a solid understanding of billing, accounts receivable, reconciliation, and financial control principles.
Communicate effectively with both finance professionals and technical teams.
Maintain a strong mindset geared toward process improvement and automation.

Nice to Have

Prior background with usage-based, consumption-based, SaaS, cloud, infrastructure, API, or high-volume billing models.
Familiarity with SOX controls or working within a controlled financial environment.
Experience utilizing ERP, billing, payment, CRM, and reporting tools.
Familiarity with SQL or similar data-analysis tools.
