Role Overview

Gallatin is hiring an Applied AI Engineer, Internal Systems in El Segundo, CA to manage the engineering behind internal artificial intelligence tools. Working alongside the Internal AI Operations Product Manager, the engineer shapes solutions, handles technical design, builds integrations, and ensures deployment reliability. Internal colleagues serve as the primary users of these applications, collaborating directly to identify bottlenecks, connect information across internal platforms, and build automated agents.

Key Responsibilities

Transform workflow challenges into technical requirements and determine where processes should change prior to automation.
Build software applications and integrations connecting models to company systems, utilizing conventional code when predictable behavior is necessary.
Transition functional experiments into dependable software featuring evaluations, observability, and recovery mechanisms for failures.
Design access controls and human review procedures into workflows that handle sensitive data or execute consequential actions.
Instrument built systems to track time saved and output quality, utilizing failure data for software enhancement and product scoping.
Document developed systems and assist colleagues in utilizing and extending the platform.

Requirements

Strong programming capabilities in Python or TypeScript with practical experience building APIs and interacting with databases.
Experience designing and building large language model applications or agents leveraging external tools and data sources.
Full-stack engineering competence sufficient to build usable user interfaces and deploy the supporting backend services.
Engineering judgment regarding reliability, security, model evaluation, and determining when human oversight is necessary.
Comfort collaborating directly with non-technical colleagues to discuss tradeoffs and adapt approaches to workflow demands.
U.S. citizenship is required due to government contracts, and the role may require obtaining and maintaining a U.S. government security clearance.

Nice to Have

Prior experience building internal tools, evaluating artificial intelligence outputs, or integrating business systems.
