This role oversees a dedicated team focused on safeguarding frontier technology against chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and advanced weapons threats.

Role Overview

Anthropic is looking for a Threat Intel Manager to build and mature the CBRN-E and Advanced Weapons team within its Threat Intelligence function. This position leads efforts to detect, investigate, and disrupt attempts to leverage AI systems for dangerous and unauthorized applications. The professional in this role will guide a growing team of specialists, establish rigorous investigative standards, and directly handle complex cases requiring deep scientific and analytical judgment. The function also involves significant collaboration with external government bodies, biosecurity experts, and scientific communities.

Key Responsibilities

Shape the overarching strategy, priorities, and outcomes for the CBRN-E and Advanced Weapons mission area.
Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of investigators possessing specialized backgrounds in biological, chemical, and weapons-development threat domains.
Directly lead high-priority investigations into potential attempts to use AI models for the creation, enhancement, or dissemination of CBRN-E and advanced weapons.
Collaborate with collection engineers to transition broad harm screens into precise, threat-specific detection mechanisms tailored to dual-use research concerns.
Set the analytical benchmark for cross-platform threat analysis rooted in genuine actor behavior, open-source intelligence, and documented weapons programs.
Partner with policy and enforcement teams to make critical escalation and enforcement determinations for high-severity misuse events.
Manage external relationships with government agencies, chemical-security groups, and scientific organizations through formal briefings and regular reporting.
Forecast how malicious actors might attempt to exploit frontier AI for CBRN-E purposes to inform safety-by-design and capability-evaluation frameworks.

Requirements

Professional background as an intelligence analyst, policy expert, or researcher specializing in biosecurity, chemical defense, weapons non-proliferation, dual-use research of concern, or related fields.
Demonstrated history of leading investigative or analytical teams, with strong mentorship and program-building capabilities.
Practical familiarity with threat actor profiling, threat intelligence methodologies, and structured collection frameworks.
Direct, hands-on experience utilizing large language models and understanding how artificial intelligence could be improperly applied to CBRN-E scenarios.
Exceptional stakeholder management abilities spanning technical researchers, legal teams, policy experts, and external partners.
Proven capacity to communicate complex analytical conclusions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including executive leadership and government officials.
Ability to handle potentially disturbing or graphic content, and readiness to respond to critical escalations during weekends and holidays as needed.
Completion of a relevant bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience.

Nice to Have

Advanced degree such as an MS or PhD in biological sciences, chemistry, biodefense, biosecurity, or a related academic discipline.
Practical experience countering weapons of mass destruction or high-risk asymmetric threats within defense organizations or the intelligence community.
Professional background working alongside government agencies or within regulated environments managing sensitive CBRN-E programs and counterproliferation.
Experience in AI safety, machine learning security, or technology abuse investigations.
Background in developing and scaling threat detection systems or abuse monitoring programs.
Active Top Secret security clearance.
