Role Overview

The Data Engineer, Product role is designed for experienced data professionals who want to shape analytics for AI products at Anthropic. It is based in San Francisco, CA (with options in New York City or Seattle) and fits candidates comfortable partnering with product and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

Identify and anticipate data needs of partner teams, translating them into models, reports, and technical specs.
Design, build, and maintain dbt pipelines that convert raw logs into canonical datasets.
Define data-integrity standards and service-level agreements to ensure timely, accurate delivery.
Create reliable dashboards that monitor core metrics and disseminate insights across the organization.
Develop foundational data products and self-serve tools that enable scalable analytics.
Collaborate with stakeholders to define metrics for new and evolving consumer products.
Influence product road-maps from a data-systems perspective.
Master Anthropic’s data models and architecture.

Requirements

Significant experience as a Data Engineer or in a comparable Data Science & Analytics role, preferably working with product leads on company-wide metrics.
Proven ability to build multi-step ETL processes using dbt and to orchestrate workflows with tools such as Airflow.
Strong SQL and Python skills for creating clean, accurate data models.
Experience developing reporting and dashboards in platforms like Hex for cross-functional teams.
Demonstrated bias for action and judgment on when “good enough” is appropriate.
End-to-end ownership mindset, willing to extend beyond typical responsibilities to solve problems fully.
Comfort navigating ambiguity and creating clarity and progress.
Ability to leverage AI to boost personal and team productivity without compromising quality.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Nice to Have

Background building a data-engineering function from the ground up in an early-stage or fast-growing environment.
