About this role

The Technical Program Manager, Silicon position at Anthropic involves owning end-to-end execution for custom silicon development for Claude in San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY. This role suits an experienced program leader with a strong background in chip design lifecycles who wants to build execution machinery from scratch.

Role Overview

Anthropic is building custom silicon to power Claude, giving the organization direct control over capability, cost, and reliability. As a Technical Program Manager, you will oversee end-to-end silicon execution, covering everything from architecture definition and tapeout to first-silicon bring-up and production ramp. Working alongside a compact group of domain experts, you will establish the foundational execution machinery for this program without relying on pre-existing corporate processes. You will also collaborate with Claude to explore and push the boundaries of AI-assisted program management.

Key Responsibilities

Own the integrated silicon program plan, including architecture closure, RTL freeze, design verification milestones, IP delivery, physical design closure, DFT, tapeout, and post-silicon bring-up.
Drive external partner execution across ASIC design partners, IP vendors, foundries, and packaging or test facilities.
Manage technology and IP selection by tracking vendor options, driving evaluations, and executing build, buy, or license decisions alongside engineering leadership.
Build lightweight execution mechanisms such as milestone definitions, risk and dependency tracking, design reviews, release management, and executive reporting.
Coordinate the interface between silicon, hardware systems, and software teams including inference, kernels, and compilers for effective hardware-software co-design.
Oversee post-silicon program operations like bring-up planning, automated test equipment handoff, sample distribution, validation, and production readiness.
Develop and share AI-assisted approaches for schedule modeling, consistency checking, and status synthesis.

Requirements

Minimum of 8 years of experience in silicon or SoC program management, chip leadership, or equivalent end-to-end schedule ownership roles.
Direct ownership history of at least one successfully taped out and production-reached silicon program.
Working technical fluency across the entire silicon lifecycle, covering front-end, design verification, physical design, DFT, foundry operations, and packaging.
Experience managing external silicon partners such as ASIC houses, IP vendors, foundries, or OSAT providers.
Proven track record of building program mechanisms from scratch within ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce clear plans, reviews, and executive updates.
High autonomy, adaptability, and comfort operating with limited formal process.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

Experience working on machine learning accelerators, high-performance compute, networking, or advanced process node SoCs.
Background in first-generation or early silicon programs where flows and methodologies were built from the ground up.
Prior hands-on engineering background in silicon domains like design, design verification, physical design, DFT, or signal and power integrity.
Familiarity with the chip-package-system interface and compiler or runtime software co-design.
Practical experience using AI tooling in daily workflows.
