About this role

Sierra needs a Strategist for Agent Development on the healthcare team to solve the complex challenge of scaling AI agents that handle sensitive, high-stakes conversations for major health plans and providers. Healthcare organizations deal with intricate workflows, from benefit queries to financial assistance, requiring agents that maintain empathy and precision.

In this capacity, the person selected will own the entire agent development life cycle, guiding products from initial scoping through production iteration while advising enterprise leaders. Operating at the intersection of product, technology, and client relationships, the individual will translate business goals into functional agents and feed customer insights back to research and platform teams.

Ideal candidates bring a blend of customer obsession, technical aptitude, and strategic problem-solving in ambiguous environments. Someone who thrives on direct client engagement, understands system architecture, and cares deeply about improving patient experiences will do exceptionally well here.

What you will do

  • Manage the agent development life cycle by taking solutions from initial scope through conversation design, tooling, evaluation, and continuous production iteration.
  • Act as a trusted strategic advisor to enterprise leaders by understanding business goals and shaping targeted AI strategies.
  • Partner with customer working teams through daily sessions, troubleshooting, and strategic decision-making to maintain launch schedules.
  • Surface unmet customer needs from field work and feed those insights directly back to research and platform teams.
  • Build AI agents for major health insurance networks and healthcare financial platforms to handle detailed benefit, billing, and appointment questions.

What you need

  • Demonstrate customer obsession with a genuine energy for understanding business needs and building trusted relationships.
  • Communicate clearly, directly, and persuasively across both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Apply strategic problem-solving skills in ambiguous situations to break down complex issues and spot risks early.
  • Show technical aptitude through comfort with reading API documentation, understanding data models, and following system architecture tradeoffs.
  • Bring a track record of running multiple complex, high-visibility projects simultaneously and driving them to successful outcomes.

Nice to have

  • Experience building or deploying AI/LLM agents in production with hands-on tool familiarity including eval frameworks, agent tooling, RAG, and prompt engineering
  • Background as a founder, founding team member, or operator
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field, alongside an MBA or comparable business-technology experience
