About this role

Role Overview

Anthropic is seeking a Strategic Sourcing Business Partner for R&D Operations to manage the commercial side of a rapidly growing ecosystem of outside service providers. This position is based in San Francisco, CA or Seattle, WA, and is ideal for a professional with deep contracting and negotiation expertise who wants to help define an AI-native sourcing function. The successful candidate will drive end-to-end ownership of commercial terms, vendor performance, and contract templates to unlock significant value across research and development portfolios.

Key Responsibilities

Own commercial redlines for Human Data Operations and R&D service agreements, partnering with Legal on legal terms to ensure fast and secure deal execution.
Build and maintain a comprehensive template library including MSAs, SOWs, pricing exhibits, and SLA schedules.
Manage the renewal calendar proactively to prevent auto-renewals or lapses without deliberate commercial strategy.
Lead pricing and commercial negotiations from strategy and deal structure through executive alignment.
Design innovative pricing structures like per-unit, per-hour, capacity, tiered, and committed-volume models that fit R&D consumption.
Maintain a competitive bench for mission-critical categories via RFPs, qualified second sources, and flexible pricing constructs.
Drive the vendor management cadence for key partners, including QBRs, scorecards, SLA enforcement, and escalations.
Partner closely with Procurement Ops BPs, Finance, Security, and Legal to manage budgets, forecasts, and compliance approvals.

Requirements

Minimum of 7 years of strategic sourcing, category management, vendor management, or commercial negotiation experience within services categories.
Hands-on contract experience personally redlining MSAs and SOWs, building templates, and utilizing fallback positions.
Proven track record of personally leading multi-million-dollar services negotiations to strong outcomes.
Strong analytical skills covering rate and unit-cost analysis, TCO modeling, and pricing model design.
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field of study.
Ability to work on a location-based hybrid policy, requiring staff to be in one of the company offices at least 25% of the time.

Nice to Have

Experience sourcing human data, data labeling, annotation, evaluation vendors, or comparable BPO and outsourced operations categories.
Background in sourcing lab services, scientific equipment, hardware services, or other technical services for research organizations.
Experience working at a hypergrowth company or standing up sourcing coverage for a category completely from scratch.
Familiarity with confidentiality, data-handling, and intellectual property terms critical for research and data vendors.
Demonstrated experience utilizing AI tools in daily work and rebuilding personal workflows around them.
