This position suits an experienced technical leader who wants to build large-scale infrastructure that directly supports artificial intelligence research teams.

Role Overview

The Infrastructure organization at Anthropic develops the distributed systems that train, secure, and serve AI models. In this role, the engineer collaborates directly with research teams to deliver scalable, reliable, and performant technical solutions. Responsibilities include scoping multi-month projects, resolving bottlenecks, and improving operational processes across the infrastructure group.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and execute complex infrastructure initiatives independently, starting from ambiguous requirements through final production deployment.
Partner closely with research personnel to understand technical needs and fulfill deliverables.
Guide and mentor other engineers to elevate overall technical performance.
Establish technical alignment across multiple stakeholders while navigating ambiguous problem spaces.
Maintain accountability for the security, scalability, and reliability of constructed systems.
Streamline operational workflows such as incident response, postmortems, and on-call schedules.

Requirements

Proven history of designing, implementing, and running production-level large-scale distributed systems or infrastructure.
Demonstrated ability to scope and deliver complex technical projects independently.
Prior background acting as a mentor or technical lead for peers.
Experience formulating architectural choices that serve as foundations for other teams.
Proficiency in general software engineering and at least one programming language like Python, Go, Rust, or Java.
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure tools including AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code.
Verbal and written communication proficiencies suited for cross-team alignment.

Nice to Have

Ten or more years of professional software engineering experience outside of internships.
Exposure to machine learning hardware like GPUs, TPUs, or Trainium, alongside networking tools like NCCL.
Background in low-level systems topics such as eBPF or Linux kernel tuning.
Practical application of privacy and security engineering standards.

Salary and Benefits
