About this role

DDN is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for Internal Apps based in the New York office with remote flexibility. This full-time position suits an experienced developer ready to shape a new greenfield product portfolio of full-stack tools and AI-powered services.

Role Overview

This role sits within a brand new function dedicated to creating full-stack applications and AI-driven services for departments such as Finance, Support, Product, and Go-To-Market. The position focuses on building solutions that deliver data for critical decision-making and automating essential business operations. While foundational data and analytics are handled elsewhere, the entire application lifecycle—from frontend and backend to deployment and model integration—belongs to this role.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and operate full-stack web applications utilizing technologies like FastAPI, Flask, React, and TypeScript to place data and AI directly into the hands of stakeholders.
Integrate artificial intelligence and large language models into features such as classification, extraction, summarization, copilots, and agentic workflows.
Deploy and manage application infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform using services like App Engine, Cloud Run, and GKE.
Establish product standards for the new function, determining when to build custom applications versus deploying BI dashboards.
Partner closely with stakeholders, analytics engineers, and data engineers to scope tools, design data access layers, and address platform constraints.

Requirements

5+ years of professional experience building production software, with significant focus on full-stack web applications.
Strong expertise in Python for backend development, APIs, data access patterns, and testing.
Proficiency in TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks like React for creating interactive data user interfaces.
Hands-on operational experience with GCP application services and identity management.
Advanced SQL skills with the ability to write queries, manage costs, and design data access layers for cloud data warehouses.
Demonstrated experience developing and deploying production-ready AI and LLM-powered applications, managing prompt design, evaluation, and latency tradeoffs.
Proven background in operating production software with a focus on logging, monitoring, CI/CD, and secure design.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

Experience constructing AI-native applications including text-to-SQL interfaces, automated insight generation, or agentic workflows.
Practical familiarity with LLM provider APIs and agent frameworks such as LangGraph or the Claude Agent SDK.
Exposure to managed machine learning platforms like Vertex AI or SageMaker for model serving and embeddings.
Familiarity with modern data warehouse patterns, dbt, Airflow, and Terraform infrastructure management.
Background in crafting data-heavy user interfaces featuring interactive exploration and large result sets.
Prior history working as a sole application engineer on a data team.
