About this role

Anthropic is seeking a Staff+ Software Engineer to build the governance, risk, and compliance platform in San Francisco, CA, New York City, NY, or Seattle, WA. This role is well-suited for an experienced developer who wants to design internal platforms, automate compliance data collection, and integrate large language models into operational workflows.

Role Overview

The Staff+ Software Engineer for the GRC Platform will build the systems that consolidate compliance data across cloud infrastructure, identity providers, HR platforms, and code repositories. Compliance information is scattered across numerous systems at the company. This engineer creates the pipelines, integrations, and services that transform raw data into automated checks, real-time dashboards, and evidence for operational decisions. As an early member of the team, the individual will collaborate with departments such as Security, IT, Engineering, Privacy Engineering, Legal, and Finance. The role involves leading projects end to end and utilizing Claude for agentic workflows related to evidence collection, analysis, and continuous monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

Design and build data pipelines that aggregate risk, control, and asset information across the entire technology stack.
Build and maintain integrations connecting the platform to cloud infrastructure, identity management, HRIS, ticketing, version control, and CI/CD systems.
Translate written policies and regulatory requirements into policy-as-code to enable enforceable rules and continuous monitoring.
Design and deploy agentic workflows where Claude handles tasks like analyzing evidence, generating audit responses, and monitoring control effectiveness.
Develop dashboards and reporting to provide real-time risk and compliance visibility for engineers, executives, and external auditors.
Make architectural decisions and establish patterns and tooling that other engineers will build upon.
Partner with Security, IT, Infrastructure, and product engineering teams to make controls and evidence collection native to the workflow.
Operate built systems with full ownership over reliability and data integrity.

Requirements

Bring eight or more years of experience building backend systems, data pipelines, or internal platforms that other teams depend on.
Demonstrate strong systems thinking regarding data flows, integration points, and dependencies.
Possess depth in either integration engineering or data infrastructure, with fluency in the other.
Be proficient in Python, Go, or similar programming languages.
Have production experience with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure alongside infrastructure-as-code.
Hold a high standard for data quality, reliability, and turning ambiguous processes into automated systems.
Take full ownership of work from design through deployment and operations.
Approach platform work with a product-focused mindset.
Feel excited to build with large language models as system components and design agentic workflows.
Hold a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field of study.

Nice to Have

Experience in engineering domains meeting regulation, such as privacy engineering, data governance, fintech, healthcare, or trust and safety.
Experience designing and shipping LLM-based or agentic automation in production.
Familiarity with compliance frameworks like SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, FedRAMP, or GRC platforms like ServiceNow, Vanta, Drata, and OneTrust.
Prior experience working at high-growth startups.
