Role Overview

The Staff Software Engineer for GI position at Virtual Physical Therapy is an opportunity to shape a brand-new digital care experience for individuals managing gastrointestinal conditions. Based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model, this role suits an experienced hands-on builder eager to design and launch innovative healthcare solutions from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

Help define the GI product line from scratch, partnering with Product, Design, and Marketing to align on strategy and experimentation roadmaps.

Lead technical roadmap development across AI systems, user experience interfaces, business logic middle-tier, and hardware integration.

Develop prototypes and proof-of-concepts for complex product features and personally build the most challenging software components.

Build a minimum lovable product (MLP) that delivers measurable health improvements for members.

Mentor and pair with fellow pod engineers, establishing engineering best practices for continuous integration, automated testing, monitoring, and client performance.

Drive cross-team initiatives post-launch to iterate on the product using real user feedback and continuously raise technical standards.

Requirements

A minimum of 4+ years of practical software engineering experience, including building and shipping user-facing applications in production.

A minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or foreign equivalent.

At least 2+ years of hands-on React Native experience building mobile applications at scale.

Demonstrated track record as a 0-to-1 builder of brand-new products.

Experience utilizing the latest AI software development techniques.

Familiarity with operating product surfaces across multiple platforms and running dense A/B experimentation roadmaps.

Nice to Have

Experience building in large React Native codebases, TypeScript, Node.js, Go backends, and GraphQL.

Familiarity with AWS services such as Lambda, SQS, SNS, and SageMaker.

Background working within regulated healthcare environments like HIPAA involving sensitive member data.

Experience developing consumer-facing mobile applications used by millions or billions of users.
