Staff Software Engineer, Discovery
About this role
The Lattice for Cyber team at Anduril Industries builds the core capabilities, experiences, and primitives that allow cyber products to operate reliably at scale. Operating from an unusually blank sheet of paper within a newly established business line, the group designs novel solutions to deploy cyber capabilities in unconventional or difficult-to-reach environments using autonomous vehicles, mesh networks, and the Lattice operating system.
As a Staff Software Engineer for Discovery, the chosen candidate will build highly available services, data models, and APIs that power offensive cyber products such as command and control frameworks, autonomous cyber behavior trees, SIGINT analysis tools, and data exfiltration pipelines. The work involves solving diverse problems in networking, autonomy, systems integration, and robotics while making pragmatic engineering tradeoffs.
Ideal candidates are experienced software practitioners who thrive in ambiguous settings, possess a strong drive for execution, and can work directly with program teams and customers to deploy technology in the field.
What you will do
- Build highly-available and scalable services, data models, and APIs that power offensive cyber products such as command and control frameworks, autonomous cyber behavior trees, SIGINT analysis tools, and data exfiltration pipelines.
- Integrate best-of-breed Cyber tools and products into Lattice via custom SDKs or white-glove integrations.
- Work directly with program teams and customers as they build real missions on your products.
- Contribute to technical leadership, design clarity, and long-term maintainability across a growing software stack.
- Design distributed software systems that work reliably between the far edge and the enterprise across degraded, intermittent, and contested networks.
- Incorporate AI/LLM-enabled workflow features where they improve analyst or operator effectiveness without compromising system reliability.
- Build SDKs and integrations to allow best-of-breed vendors to incorporate their software and tools into the Lattice Cyber platform.
What you need
- Bring 10+ years of experience designing, building, and operating production software.
- Demonstrate strong software engineering experience in one or more of C, C++, Python, Go, Rust, or modern TypeScript/React application development.
- Possess the ability to debug across the full stack, including logs, networking, interfaces, configuration, and hardware/software boundaries.
- Have practical experience with Linux and containerized deployment.
- Show comfort collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams and translating ambiguous requirements into clean software interfaces.
- Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reviews and architecture discussions.
- Be based in, or willing to relocate to, the Washington, DC or the Orange County, CA metro areas.
- Maintain a willingness to travel up to 20% of the time to support program teams and customer events, alongside US security clearance eligibility.
Nice to have
- Hands-on offensive or defensive cyber background.
- Exposure to AI/LLM integration patterns, inference workflows, tool orchestration, or model-assisted application features.
- Front end experience in TypeScript and React.
- Track record of technical leadership, productization work, or direct customer interface in complex engineering environments.
- Prior work delivering into air-gapped or otherwise constrained deployment environments, or an active U.S. Security clearance.
Benefits
- Comprehensive, competitive benefits package available at little to no cost to employees
- Support in health, recovery, and other life areas
- Highly competitive equity grants included in the majority of full-time offers
