Translating scientific workflows into production systems forms the core of daily engineering efforts for the Claude Science team at Anthropic. Engineers build an AI workbench that unifies literature analysis, scientific computing, databases, and publication outputs into a single environment that natively renders proteins, genomes, and chemical structures. Anthropic seeks a technical leader to shape product architecture from the ground up, partner directly with research scientists, and accelerate scientific discovery across biology, chemistry, and physics.
Operating in an undefined product category, the team designs multi-agent workflows with built-in review mechanisms for citation and calculation errors. Success in the role requires bridging the gap between raw model capabilities and practical applications used daily by academic labs and industry researchers. What you will do
- Ship fast against an evolving roadmap while helping define product architecture in an entirely new category.
- Interface directly with academic labs, industry research and development teams, and scientific institutes during key conversations.
- Translate insights gathered from working scientists into actionable engineering priorities.
- Partner with product and design teams to turn hypothesis generation, analysis, and publication into shipped products.
- Collaborate closely with research teams to improve model capabilities for science by shaping evaluations and surfacing failure modes.
- Drive cross-functional alignment to deliver high-impact work with significant influence over technical direction.
What you need
- Bring 8 or more years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years operating at a Staff or equivalent technical leadership level.
- Demonstrate a track record of building products from zero to one in fast-moving environments with limited precedent.
- Possess hands-on experience building AI products and turning model capabilities into practical user applications.
- Demonstrate comfort working directly with technical domain experts to translate user needs into system requirements.
- Show the ability to drive cross-functional alignment and wield influence across teams.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience in a relevant field of study.
