About this role

Leading trade studies and architecture reviews, this person defines the electrical architecture of humanoid robotics platforms while balancing performance, functional safety, complexity, and manufacturability. The engineering team builds commercially deployed humanoids that operate alongside personnel in warehouses and manufacturing facilities to handle repetitive tasks.

Reporting directly to the Principle Hardware Architect, the Staff Robotics Architect drives end-to-end robotics electrical system architecture and ensures reliable integration of sensing, compute, control, actuation, and safety subsystems. Ideal candidates bring extensive experience in robotics hardware development, actuator design, and cross-functional leadership.

What you will do

  • Own the end-to-end electrical system architecture for humanoid robots, ensuring scalable integration of sensing, compute, actuation, control, and safety subsystems.
  • Provide technical direction across multidisciplinary teams to guide the design of high-performance robotic hardware.
  • Lead trade studies and architecture reviews that balance performance, functional safety, complexity, manufacturability, cost, and reliability.
  • Partner with software controls and simulation teams to ground architectural decisions in system-level modeling and performance analysis.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering, test, and integration groups to translate architecture into testable and traceable requirements.
  • Influence the long-term product roadmap by translating user needs, field performance data, and research findings into architectural evolution.

What you need

  • Bring at least 8 years of experience in robotics hardware development, including a minimum of 3 years leading electrical product development or serving as a lead engineer.
  • Demonstrate at least 5 years of experience with electrical system design encompassing actuator development, power systems, PCBA design, component selection, and layout.
  • Possess 3 years of experience with firmware development ranging from bare-metal to network integration.
  • Understand robotic system design, actuator and transmission design, and the related tradeoffs in mass, structures, thermals, power, compute, and safety.
  • Show proven experience delivering complex electromechanical robotic systems into field or commercial deployment from ideation through production.
  • Maintain a strong foundation in electrical engineering, robot kinematics, dynamics, controls, and system modeling alongside familiarity with functional safety concepts.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience architecting full-stack robotics systems in a humanoid, legged mobility, mobile manipulation, or high-DOF automation platform
  • Hands-on experience with perception pipelines, real-time control systems, and safety-rated architectures
  • Experience with Altium, ERP systems like Windchill, and GitHub
  • Familiarity with simulation tools such as MuJoCo or Gazebo and applying AI or reinforcement learning techniques to robotics
  • PhD or Master’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field

Benefits

  • 401(k) Plan with a 6% company match
  • Company stock options
  • 100% company-paid medical, dental, vision, and short/long-term disability insurance
  • Flexible, unlimited PTO for exempt employees alongside 12 company holidays including a winter shutdown
  • Professional development and tuition reimbursement programs
  • Relocation assistance for eligible roles
