Role Overview

Anthropic is hiring a Staff+ Research Scientist, Multi-Agent to help build reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems across San Francisco, New York City, or Seattle. This position suits experienced researchers passionate about advancing reinforcement learning for large groups of agents and test-time compute scaling.

Key Responsibilities

Create and optimize training environments and data to maximize Claude's performance and usability on agentic tasks.
Ideate, develop, and compare various agent harness configurations, including memory, context management, and communication architectures.
Design and implement rigorous quantitative benchmarks for large-scale agentic tasks.
Collaborate with the product organization to find solutions for applying agents effectively to products.
Design reinforcement learning environments to train groups of Claudes to solve problems efficiently together.
Build agent affordances that unlock new capabilities and scale.
Build novel evaluations measuring how large teams of agents interact in groups.

Requirements

Experience with large-scale reinforcement learning on language models.
Experience training multi-agent systems at a large scale.
Strong communication skills with an interest in working closely with other researchers.
Passion for making powerful technology safe and societally beneficial.
Minimum education of a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field.
Ability to meet the location-based hybrid policy, requiring staff to be in an office at least 25% of the time.
