The Staff+ Research Engineer for the RL Data Platform role at Anthropic involves building the critical infrastructure that produces, moves, and serves human data for Claude model training. Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and operate feedback and data collection interfaces for human annotators, domain experts, and internal researchers.
Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, and pipelines that route model samples to humans and deliver structured feedback into training workflows.
Manage the reliability, latency, and usability of continuous systems operating against live model endpoints.
Partner with reinforcement learning researchers to translate informal data requirements into structured collection campaigns and associated tooling.
Create dashboards, monitoring systems, and inspection tools to give researchers immediate visibility into data quality and throughput.
Identify and eliminate operational bottlenecks between initial data requests and final integration into training datasets.

Requirements

Strong full-stack engineering capabilities, featuring production-level experience in TypeScript and React on the frontend alongside Python on the backend.
Proven background in designing and operating backend services and data pipelines relied upon by other teams.
Demonstrated ability to own projects end-to-end, steering ambiguous briefs through to successful production deployments.
Comfort working directly with technical stakeholders whose priorities shift weekly, supported by sound judgment regarding technical scope.
Effective incorporation of AI tools into daily engineering workflows.
Demonstrated concern for the broader societal and ethical impacts of technology development.
Minimum education of a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience in a relevant field.
Fulfillment of internal job level experience requirements.

Nice to Have

Experience building annotation, labeling, evaluation, or other human-in-the-loop data tooling.
Familiarity with reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF), preference data, or alternative human-feedback pipelines for machine learning systems.
Experience shipping researcher-facing or expert-facing internal tools, including conducting user interviews, reducing friction, and measurably improving user experience.
Background running experiments on data collection interfaces to optimize data quality.
Experience working with crowdworker or expert vendor platforms at scale.
Familiarity with the training and evaluation methodologies of large language models.
