About this role

StackAdapt is seeking a Staff Quality Engineer to join the Automation and Intelligence Pillar pod remotely across Canada or the United States. This hands-on, individual-contributor leadership role suits an experienced engineer who wants to define quality strategy for advanced AI systems and intelligent products.

Role Overview

As the most senior quality engineer on the team, the Staff Quality Engineer sets the technical direction for testing, evaluating, and shipping intelligent systems at StackAdapt. The successful candidate works across LLM-powered features, agentic workflows, and supportive data and tooling. Responsibilities include designing evaluation frameworks for non-deterministic AI systems, building automated test suites, and raising the overall quality bar in a fast-moving, cross-functional agile environment. This position directly impacts product release success, accelerates defect detection and prevention capabilities, and helps shape what quality means for AI.

Key Responsibilities

Own and drive the end-to-end quality strategy for the Automation and Intelligence Pillar pod's AI products, such as the Ivy product, from test architecture to release readiness.
Design and build evaluation frameworks for non-deterministic systems, covering LLM output quality, agent behavior, regression detection, and safety testing.
Develop reliable and scalable automated test suites and tooling addressing functional, system, API, integration, UI, and regression testing within the CI/CD pipeline.
Establish quality metrics and benchmarks including accuracy, latency, cost, and hallucination or failure rates to inform data-driven decisions.
Partner closely with engineering managers, product managers, designers, and data science teams to align requirements and definitions of done.
Act as a technical mentor across the QE organization, promoting best practices and leveling up testing for AI systems company-wide.
Participate in technical planning, code reviews, and architectural decision-making while advocating for testability and reliability from the design stage.

Requirements

7+ years of professional, hands-on software quality and test automation experience with a track record of setting technical direction on complex systems.
Deep, hands-on experience with API and UI test automation frameworks like Playwright, Cypress, Jest, or JUnit.
Fluency in at least one of TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, or Java, with a preference for TypeScript.
Experience testing AI and agentic systems, including evaluations, prompt and regression testing, output validation, and utilizing AI to scale automation using technologies such as OpenAI or Anthropic.
Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or CircleCode.
Strong understanding of scalable system design for web-based APIs and backend processing systems, along with deep knowledge of QA methodologies in fast release cycle companies.
Proven ability to define test case design standards, coverage strategy, and test case management practices.
Knowledge of React, including adding data-testids, alongside the ability to explore codebases to understand technical implementations.
Experience coaching and influencing cross-functional teams on testing plans, tooling, and execution.
