About this role
Engineers who thrive on end-to-end ownership and disciplined code stewardship will find a natural fit within the Real-time Protection team at Netskope. The group develops backend services and APIs that deliver critical policy configurations to a global platform, governing how enterprises safely reach the cloud and web.
Daily responsibilities focus on architecting distributed systems in an AI-augmented engineering culture where human oversight dictates the standard. Team members design concurrent microservices, review AI-generated code for correctness and low technical debt, and participate in an on-call rotation to maintain operational health across worldwide dataplanes.
What you will do
- Design, build, and scale concurrent microservices and APIs using Golang.
- Utilize LLM-based coding agents daily while rigorously reviewing output for technical debt and security flaws.
- Propagate policy configuration reliably across a global dataplane while reasoning about consistency and failure modes.
- Troubleshoot customer-reported issues in a timely manner and convert recurring problems into structural fixes.
- Collaborate across time zones with product, UI, dataplane, QA, and platform teams.
- Participate in a shared on-call rotation to monitor and maintain the health of production services.
What you need
- Bring 8 or more years of overall software engineering experience, including at least 5 years focused on backend services and distributed systems.
- Demonstrate strong Golang skills covering interface design, concurrency, performance profiling, and table-driven unit testing alongside Gin and gRPC experience.
- Apply practical experience using LLM-based coding agents with the ability to steer them toward correct solutions.
- Design microservice patterns, REST and gRPC APIs, event-driven systems like Kafka, and caching layers such as Redis.
- Manage SQL and NoSQL databases including MongoDB and MySQL with knowledge of schema, sharding, and index design.
- Develop, deploy, and debug cloud-native services using Kubernetes, Helm, and Prometheus.
- Communicate proactively in English and drive under-specified problems through to shipped software.
Nice to have
- Background in Secure Web Gateway, Zero Trust, CASB, or DLP products
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS control planes or policy and configuration systems
- Hands-on cloud development on AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Knowledge of emerging GenAI and cloud service security challenges and best practices
- Experience in regulated environments such as FedRAMP
Skills and tech stack
Questions candidates ask
What is the engineering culture like regarding AI tools?
Netskope works in an AI-augmented engineering culture where AI tools accelerate development, but the engineer remains the author. Team members use coding agents daily while holding every line of code to strict standards for correctness and low technical debt.
What does operational responsibility entail for this role?
This is a hands-on individual contributor role with genuine ownership where you take services from design through production. Engineers join a shared on-call rotation to monitor the health of the systems they build.
Who will I be working with on a regular basis?
You will partner across time zones with product, UI, dataplane, QA, and platform teams. The work involves raising design concerns early and collaborating on distributed system architecture.
