About this role

Role Overview

Quince is seeking a Staff Data Scientist specialising in Supply Chain Operations Research to join the team in Bengaluru. In this position, the professional will lead the creation and deployment of advanced optimization models to drive critical supply chain decisions. This opportunity suits an experienced quantitative expert who enjoys solving complex logistical problems and building scalable, production-grade systems in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Own Operations Research workstreams from initial problem formulation through to production deployment, continuous improvement, and measurable business impact.
Translate complex operational supply chain challenges into well-defined optimization objectives covering warehouse routing, shipping costs, transportation, inventory planning, and purchase order allocation.
Apply optimization methodologies such as Linear Programming, Mixed-Integer Programming, Constraint Programming, vehicle routing, network flow, metaheuristics, and stochastic optimization.
Partner closely with engineering and planning tools teams to define requirements for solver integration, feature pipelines, model serving, and evaluation infrastructure.
Establish high methodological standards, data-driven experimentation frameworks, historical backtesting, and robust model validation processes.
Drive AI-native workflows across Operations Research, utilizing LLM-assisted model formulation, agentic problem decomposition, and AI-accelerated experiment design.
Set the technical and scientific direction for the Bengaluru-based Operations Research team while collaborating with cross-geography stakeholders in Palo Alto.
Mentor data scientists and operations researchers through code reviews, technical guidance, direct coaching, and active participation in hiring.

Requirements

Possess 9 to 12 years of professional experience in Operations Research, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
Deep expertise in optimization methodologies including Linear Programming, Mixed-Integer Programming, Constraint Programming, Vehicle Routing, Network Flow, Metaheuristics, and Stochastic Optimization.
Demonstrated experience owning optimization workstreams end-to-end from problem formulation to production deployment.
Strong software engineering capabilities to build production-grade analytical solutions, feature pipelines, model serving infrastructure, and solver integrations.
Experience working with real-world operational datasets that are large, noisy, sparse, or non-stationary.
Proven background in scientific validation, backtesting, model evaluation, and experimentation frameworks.
Experience mentoring technical professionals and strong written and verbal communication skills to influence stakeholders.
Ability to operate independently in highly ambiguous environments and utilize AI and LLM tools to accelerate scientific workflows.
Hold an advanced degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.

Nice to Have

Hold a PhD in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline.
Experience building optimization systems for e-commerce, retail, logistics, supply chain, transportation, or warehouse operations.
Familiarity with commercial or open-source optimization solvers like Gurobi, CPLEX, or OR-Tools.
Background in large-scale vehicle routing, network optimization, or stochastic optimization problems.
Experience building production machine learning or operations research platforms and model-serving infrastructure.
Experience working with distributed science and engineering teams across multiple geographies.
Track record of applying generative AI to model formulation, optimization problem decomposition, or scientific workflows.
History of scaling an Operations Research or Data Science function, publishing research, or contributing to open-source projects.
