This position exists to shape and execute a mission making Catalog technology a competitive advantage for the company's Taiwan expansion. The chosen candidate will work at the intersection of product, operations, engineering, and business to design next-generation catalog systems using multi-modal large language models and classical machine learning.
Success in this role requires building production solutions from scratch, influencing metric definitions, and setting the technical direction for scalable, cost-effective systems that impact millions of listings. The incoming staff member will also analyze launched solutions to quantify real-world outcomes and act as a thought leader on AI technologies and evaluation challenges.
What you will do
- Design next-generation catalog systems at scale across extraction, query-based enrichment, and dynamic product information using agentic and automated workflows.
- Influence metric definitions to raise the bar on quality, completeness, readability, and accessibility across product data.
- Set the technical direction for evolving successful methods and models into scalable, cost-effective systems impacting tens of millions of listings.
- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis to inform model development using multi-modal large language models and classical statistics or machine learning.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners in product, engineering, and business to translate ambiguous business requirements into practical solutions.
- Provide post-launch analysis for solutions to quantify real-world outcomes and identify areas for future development.
- Act as a cross-organization thought leader on AI technology, evaluations, and handling inconsistent or dirty labels.
What you need
- Hold a bachelor's or master's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or another quantitative discipline.
- Bring eight or more years of relevant industry or academic experience working with data science.
- Demonstrate deep hands-on experience across statistics and machine learning fundamentals with a track record of applying them to production systems.
- Exhibit strong critical thinking skills to solve ambiguous problems by designing targeted data science solutions.
- Conduct independent analysis for business problems through data manipulation, hypothesis formulation, experiment design, and statistical analysis.
- Communicate effectively in written and verbal formats to engage technical and business stakeholders at all levels.
Nice to have
- Production large language model and agentic system experience
- Ability to model ambiguous business and operational problems at the appropriate level of abstraction
- Experience thinking in scalable systems including pipelines, embedded workflows, human-in-the-loop workflows, and hybrid pipelines
- Advanced proficiency with machine learning frameworks and tools including Python, TensorFlow, and PyTorch
