About this role

Coupang’s AI Security Architects spend their days designing, defining, and governing the enterprise-wide security architecture for all artificial intelligence and machine learning platforms. This team builds next-generation AI infrastructure, establishing standard reference architectures, model safety frameworks, and risk governance protocols that embed secure-by-design standards across the organization.

This role exists to act as a principal technical leader and ambassador who safeguards the technology ecosystem against complex threats. A successful person in this position will combine a deep technical understanding of distributed cloud environments and AI-specific vulnerabilities with the communication skills needed to influence senior technical leaders and drive strategic security adoption.

What you will do

  • Design and scale secure AI/ML foundations by creating end-to-end security blueprints, threat modeling complex pipelines, and establishing enterprise standards for secure model lifecycles.
  • Manage data-driven AI risks and threat governance by defining security risk metrics, evaluating platform security posture, and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with key stakeholders including principal software engineers, enterprise architects, and development organization leaders.
  • Acquire deep expertise in specialized security demands for emerging technology platforms such as LLM guardrails, agentic systems, real-time data privacy, and cloud MLOps.
  • Respond rapidly to evolving technical and threat landscapes to drive AI security architectural innovations.
  • Prevent data leakage, model inversion, and pipeline compromise by reviewing system designs, auditing high-risk architectures, and establishing technical governance standards.
  • Enhance developer efficiency and system reliability by delivering security frameworks, automated compliance patterns, and high-risk security review guides.

What you need

  • Hold a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, cybersecurity, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • Possess 6 or more years of total technology experience with a significant focus on enterprise architecture, cloud security, or software security design.
  • Demonstrate deep architectural knowledge of AI/ML systems and cloud infrastructure utilizing AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Exhibit specialized knowledge of AI-specific security threats including prompt injection, model theft, data poisoning, and OWASP Top 10 for LLMs.
  • Show proven experience designing threat models, enterprise security standards, and secure reference architectures for complex distributed applications.
  • Apply systemic thinking and creative problem-solving abilities to tackle large-scale architectural challenges.
  • Demonstrate the ability to collaborate across various organizations, build consensus, and influence senior technical leaders and executives through effective communication.

Nice to have

  • Hold recognized industry credentials in architecture or security such as SABSA, TOGAF, CISSP-ISSAP, or CCSP.
  • Bring hands-on experience in building and operating AI/ML systems.
  • Demonstrate expertise in privacy, confidential computing, differential privacy, and data protection regulations.
  • Have experience establishing processing and protection frameworks for personally identifiable information within AI models.
  • Show past success leading AI security innovation within fast-growing tech companies, large-scale e-commerce environments, or global cloud environments.
  • Possess experience building Zero Trust-based AI platforms or executing security architecture transitions.
