Role Overview

As a Staff Backend Engineer for the AI Platform at Nightfall AI, the individual will focus on delivering a reliable, secure, and massive-scale platform from Bengaluru or remotely. The professional will architect low-latency, real-time microservices designed to process and detect sensitive data at scale. Leadership and technical prowess in distributed architectures are essential for breaking down complex challenges and guiding teams toward robust solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design and construct highly available, secure authentication and API services.
Maintain and evolve mission-critical internal databases and services.
Architect, optimize, and operate high-volume, auto-scaling, reliable, real-time data infrastructure and services.
Scale AI services to ensure low-latency and real-time model inferencing.
Establish large-scale observability to gain detailed insights regarding performance and customer usage.
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation covering both internal and public-facing services.

Requirements

Possess eight or more years of professional engineering experience demonstrating technical leadership in scalable distributed architectures.
Demonstrate proficiency in at least one high-level or systems programming language such as Python, Java, C++, or Go, with a willingness to learn additional languages.
Bring practical experience running highly reliable systems capable of handling thousands of requests per second with three nines of reliability.
Show proven experience developing complex software systems that scale to millions of users or substantial data volumes, complete with production-quality deployment, monitoring, and reliability.
Have strong background experience utilizing large-scale distributed storage and database systems, including SQL or NoSQL platforms.
Possess experience building and maintaining complex, large-scale, or real-time data processing pipelines using tools like Kafka, Snowflake, Flink, or Databricks.
Demonstrate the ability to decompose intricate business problems and lead teams to solve them.

Nice to Have

Practical background working with real-time machine learning inferencing at scale.
Experience building Agentic AI systems at scale.
