Software Quality Engineer, Radar
About this role
This Software Quality Engineer role focuses on ensuring the quality and reliability of the radar software portfolio at Anduril Industries. The day-to-day work involves developing and maintaining the comprehensive test and release infrastructure for the radar software. This requires a hands-on approach, combining testing against actual radar hardware with the development of automated test solutions across various environments, including hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop setups. The primary goal is to reduce manual validation efforts, catch regressions early, and ensure that software releases are repeatable, traceable, and auditable.
The engineer will collaborate closely with software and firmware engineers across multiple radar products to achieve these objectives. Key tasks include creating test plans, identifying defects, and building tooling for reproducible test data. This role exists to support the rapid development of autonomy, AI, and sensor fusion technologies for defense applications by establishing robust quality gates throughout the development lifecycle.
Candidates who thrive in an environment that requires deep technical skills in automation and a commitment to rigorous quality assurance will perform well in this position. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and capable of bridging the gap between development and deployment to ensure high-quality radar systems.
What you will do
- Develop and execute manual and automated test plans, test cases, and scripts for radar software and firmware, covering functional, regression, integration, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Identify, document, and track software and firmware defects, collaborating with developers to reproduce issues, debug root causes, and verify fixes.
- Support the design and build-out of software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop test infrastructure, including test rigs, emulators, and harnesses.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to execute automated test suites and provide rapid, actionable feedback across the radar product portfolio.
- Develop tooling for the reliable collection, cataloging, retention, retrieval, and replay of radar test data to ensure results are reproducible.
- Support the repeatable deployment of firmware and software updates to lab hardware, test benches, and fielded units.
- Build release-assurance workflows to collect test evidence, generate release notes, bills of materials, and maintain traceability between code, tests, and deployed software.
What you need
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience is required.
- Possesses at least three years of experience in software quality assurance, software test engineering, or software development infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience developing automated tests at the unit, integration, or system level is necessary.
- Proficiency in Python is required for test automation and scripting tasks.
- Working proficiency in C++ is needed to understand, instrument, and debug production software.
- Experience utilizing Git and CI/CD tooling is essential for pipeline management.
- Familiarity with bug-tracking systems such as Jira is required.
- Experience testing and debugging software within Linux environments is a mandatory skill.
Nice to have
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing setups
