Role Overview

Sierra is seeking a full-time Software Engineer, Site Reliability (SRE) to work in-person at their office in San Francisco, California. This role involves defining and building the foundation of reliability, observability, and scalability across the company's AI-driven infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Own Sierra’s observability stack, encompassing monitoring, alerting, logging, and tracing to provide clear visibility into system health and performance.
Partner closely with product and platform engineers to design systems that remain reliable and scalable from inception.
Design and implement secure, scalable, and reliable cloud infrastructure on AWS utilizing Terraform and modern DevOps tooling.
Improve the scalability and reliability of LLM deployments to ensure robust, cost-effective, and performant operations.
Lead enhancements to CI/CD tooling, deployment pipelines, and incident management processes to minimize response time and downtime.
Establish the foundation of SRE practices, influencing tooling, culture, and best practices across the entire engineering organization.

Requirements

Bring at least 5 years of hands-on experience in infrastructure or site reliability engineering roles focused on complex cloud-based or SaaS systems.
Possess experience designing for scalability, availability, and reliability at both the application and infrastructure layers.
Demonstrate deep experience with AWS services, Terraform, container orchestration, and cloud networking, including VPC architecture and IAM.
Show a strong background working with observability systems such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, or comparable tools.
Have experience interacting with enterprise customers, understanding their compliance, networking needs, and integration patterns.
Display comfort working in fast-moving environments and collaborating across product, machine learning, and core engineering teams.
Hold a degree in Computer Science or a related field, or possess equivalent professional experience.

Nice to Have

Experience working with LLM infrastructure, such as managing fine-tuned models, optimizing inference performance, or executing large-scale model deployments.
Previous experience working in an early-stage startup environment, particularly when defining SRE culture and tooling from the ground up.
Familiarity with self-healing infrastructure patterns or incident management automation.
