Software Engineer III – Developer Platform & AI Enablement
About this role
The Developer Platform and AI Enablement team at GHX builds the internal tooling, standards, and AI capabilities that power the company's core product engineering operations. Software engineers on this team create the infrastructure, agent platforms, and model routers that internal developers rely on to build healthcare supply chain solutions.
In this role, the engineer spends time embedded directly inside product teams to prove out reusable patterns before bringing them back to the broader engineering organization. Responsibilities include designing platform capabilities, authoring GitHub Actions and Infrastructure as Code, operating Model Context Protocol servers, and extending internal agent platforms and SDKs.
The ideal candidate has a background in building internal developer tooling and a strong comfort level with agentic coding utilities. Someone who thrives in an environment requiring collaboration across multiple teams, technical writing, and live instruction will succeed here.
What you will do
- Analyze, design, program, debug, test, document, release, and support platform capabilities end to end.
- Develop, version, and document reusable GitHub Actions and composite actions used across the organization.
- Build and operate Model Context Protocol servers over stdio and remote HTTP transports, taking charge of tool schema design and authentication.
- Extend internal agent platforms, including Software Development Kits and APIs, while contributing to local model routing.
- Read and safely modify unfamiliar codebases such as Java and Maven builds without owning the underlying application code.
- Drive defects and blockers to resolution by writing automated tests and system test specifications.
- Co-facilitate recorded artificial intelligence in automation office hours remotely each week and conduct live training sessions.
- Instrument developer-facing tooling to measure adoption and extend the team delivery metrics pipeline.
What you need
- Hold a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Computer Science.
- Demonstrate three to five years of software development experience.
- Show past experience building internal tooling for other engineers and explain adoption outcomes.
- Use agentic coding tools daily, with a preference for Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor.
- Possess direct experience authoring reusable workflow or composite level GitHub Actions.
- Bring direct experience authoring infrastructure as code modules.
- Produce technical writing that other engineers act upon, such as design documents, architecture decision records, or runbooks.
- Demonstrate willingness to teach live and unscripted, including remote sessions and full-day in-person workshops, along with a willingness to travel as needed.
Nice to have
- Experience measuring a non-deterministic system and arguing from the numbers using an evaluation harness, benchmark, or rubric.
- Experience building and operating Model Context Protocol servers, including remote and HTTP transports and authentication.
- Comfort deploying and debugging on Amazon Web Services.
- Experience with local or open-weight inference like Ollama, llama.cpp, MLX, quantization tradeoffs, context and KV-cache sizing, and OpenAI-compatible shims.
- Familiarity with the healthcare supply chain and Electronic Data Interchange documents and standards.
