Role Overview

Elastic seeks a Software Engineer I for AI Observability based in Portugal. The position focuses on building AI-driven site reliability engineering systems that monitor production environments, automate investigations, and generate detection queries.

Key Responsibilities

Build user-facing interfaces in Kibana where signals, findings, and investigations reach users
Contribute to multi-agent systems that autonomously pursue root causes and gather evidence
Build tools that agents use to investigate and shape reasoning contexts
Contribute to detection and signal generation systems that establish baselines across high-cardinality telemetry
Build offline and online evaluation infrastructure and curate datasets for agent output quality
Partner with UX designers, product managers, and data scientists across cross-functional teams

Requirements

Minimum of two years developing applications using TypeScript, React, and Node.js
Use AI to accelerate development, debug systems, and optimize code while owning outcomes
Knowledge of large language model-based systems including agent orchestration, tool use, retrieval, and context management
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience
Willingness to learn in a dynamic and distributed environment

Nice to Have

Knowledge of self-directed agentic execution with multi-turn reasoning loops
Experience evaluating non-deterministic systems and designing evaluation datasets
Familiarity with Observability and Elasticsearch
Background in distributed teams and open source projects
