Role Overview

As a Software Engineer focused on early career AI at Notion, the selected candidate will help design core user interactions and expand how individuals and teams discover value within the platform. The position involves working alongside cross-functional experts across design, product, and data to create meaningful AI-powered capabilities. Depending on team alignment and business needs, work may focus on AI product engineering, model and systems engineering, or evaluation and quality frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

Partner with the team to prototype and ship impactful AI-driven product enhancements.
Own a scoped productionization project, which includes integrating new models into existing workflows, adding monitoring and guardrails, and optimizing performance metrics like latency, cost, and reliability.
Contribute to evaluation and iteration loops by building or extending evaluation sets, running experiments, and translating findings into actionable product improvements.

Requirements

Possess less than two years of professional engineering experience with solid fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
Demonstrate experience building and prototyping, having explored AI and machine learning through coursework, projects, internships, or hackathons.
Bring a thoughtful, customer-minded approach to problem-solving, with familiarity using relational databases and taking ideas from prototypes to working features.
Exercise proactive communication, high agency, and an impact-driven mindset focused on delivering genuine value to users.

Nice to Have

Experience with the Notion technology stack, including React, TypeScript, Node.js, Postgres, and Elasticsearch.
Awareness of the interaction between technology and society.
Familiarity with computing pioneers such as Ada Lovelace, Douglas Engelbart, and Alan Kay.

Skills and Tools

React, TypeScript, and Node.js.
Relational databases such as Postgres or MySQL.
Large Language Models, embeddings, and modern AI development environments like Cursor and Claude Code.
